Ateneo diaries

July 30, 2011
Just when I was about to go out for a meal (brunch)  it rained so hard and I had to step back into the room, knowing that I have kept my umbrella inside my luggage. I got conflicting news. One I learned through sms that there might be a typhoon. Another from a friend who took an earlier flight, said that it was bright and sunny in Tacloban. Of course if I am to be optimistic, I would be inclined to believe the latter, because my flight is scheduled at 4 o’clock today. I am bound for the airport at  twelve which is about three hours from now.
I think I am tired of travelling. When I settle back into routine, I would have to set aside time for make up of things that I should have done but didn’t because I was on travel. But on the second thought, this trip has been worth all the trouble I took, even that trying to catch the 7:30 flight to Manila, when the alarm failed to go off at 1:00 AM so that we would have ample time to prepare breakfast and catch the bus which would take us to Tacloban where the airport was. Imagine the agony and the misery we felt when we learned that we had missed  the first trip that usually takes passengers to the airport. The driver pitied us I guess, as he went around near the port area where there were passengers disembarking from the boat and were due for Tacloban. He made it there in two hours flat, and I was so happy that I was already at the departure area at six that morning, sans bath or breakfast, but it was such a small discomfort to pay for the fact that I made it to the  airport on time.
I met my colleague at the airport and together we took a taxi to Ateneo where our seminar venue was. I did not have any reservation and since it was Sunday, the office was closed so I went with Betty to her uncle’s house and we were received warmly by the uncle and aunt. They were so hospitable, and despite the invitation to stay there the whole duration of the seminar, I insisted to get admitted to the ISO dorm of the university. I learned later that their sanctuary ( a resort of sorts) was named after their son Philipp, a principled PMA graduate whose death was a celebrated case. They  named the resort in his memory. The couple was nice and hospitable and we promised we would consider the resort as a venue for future team building activities.
Now I am ready to go to the airport. More next timeJuly 30, 2011
That is my friend Betty . This picture was taken when we went to a research hearing in Sogod Southern Leyte. I am supposed to post some pictures in here but for some reasons, I misplaced the memory card of my digicam which I took with me to Manila. I hope I can find it when I post the sequel to this diary.
